Kempton Park was first conceived on the 25 October 1859 when the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek (Z.A.R.) issued a title deed for part of the farm Zuurfontein. The actual settlement was established in 1903 on the farm itself and it is said to have been named after Kempten in Germany, home of the owner of the farm, Karl F Wolff. Another possible origin of the name is from the Kempton Park horse racing centre in England.
Kempton Park falls under the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality which is a Category A municipality and covers an extensive area from Germiston in the west to Springs and Nigel in the east.
O. R. Tambo International Airport (Africa’s busiest airport) is located in Kempton Park. In 1952 the airport, then known as Jan Smuts International Airport, was built on land next to the community, and opened in 1953. The airport’s name was changed to Johannesburg International Airport in the late 1990s and then to OR Tambo International Airport in 2006. OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni is the largest and busiest airport in Africa. A thoroughly modern and state-of-the-art airport, OR Tambo International handles more than 19 million passengers per year and employs more than 18,000 people.

Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate
This modern residential golf estate outside Johannesburg has been designed to incorporate wide open spaces and indigenous wildlife to give residents and visitors a feeling of being in the countryside.
The environs include 7 km’s of wetlands, a variety of buck and birdlife and the spectacular Serengeti Golf Course. The golf course was designed by golfing great Jack Nicklaus and joins an elite group of only five Nicklaus signature courses in South Africa.
Serengeti comprises an 18-hole course, named Masai Mara, which has a rugged grassland and dune scape look and feel. A second 18-hole championship par 3 course called Whistling Thorn is currently under construction and will be the only course of this type in South Africa when it opens in first quarter of 2019.
After your round enjoy drinks and lunch on the deck at the clubhouse while looking out over the serene course and surrounding parkland.
