Campbell falls under the Siyancuma Local Municipality which is situated within the Pixley Ka Seme District of the Northern Cape Province. It is bordered by the ZF Mgcawu and Frances Baard Districts in the north, Siyathemba and Thembelihle in the south, the Free State Province in the east, and the ZF Mgcawu District in the west. It is one of the eight municipalities that make up the district, accounting for 16% of its geographical area.

This village, on the edge of the Ghaap Plateau, was one of the earliest centres of Christianity. Renowned for its spectacular dolomite rock formations, many springs, Karee and Wild Olive trees, Campbell has a multifaceted history and has been home to San, Koranna and, later, Griqua settlers drawn by the springs.

Cities/Towns close to Campell are Douglas, Griekwastad, Riet River and Schmidtsdrif. Campbell is a small town situated on the edge of the Ghaap Plateau in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is located 48 km’s east of Griquatown. It was originally known as Knovel Valley and then Groote Fontein, but was renamed in honour of the Reverend John Campbell who visited the Cape Colony in 1813.
